The book draws on a variety of sources to provide the reader with a clear and compelling account of Sierra Leone’s political history. Its strengths are two: first, it offers an analysis that cuts through the complexities of the country’s history; and second, it sets the history of colonial and post-colonial Sierra Leone within the relevant. “Geographically, Liberia borders the Atlantic Ocean and is situated at the bottom of the “West African Bulge.” It has a wonderful diversified terrain and an abundance of natural resources. This little known country is located southeast of Sierra Leone, south of Guinea and west of Cote d’Ivoire.

Book digitized by Google from the library of the University of California and uploaded to the Internet Archive by user tpb.   The quality of this image isn’t the best; it’s just taken from a Google images scan of Alldridge’s public domain book A Transformed Colony: Sierra Leone, as it Was, and as it dge notes that both the Sokong and the Lavari later “suffered the full penalty of the law” for the rebellion.. That would presumably make those two leaders also part of this portrait, taken just four.

Elizabeth II was Queen of Sierra Leone from to , when Sierra Leone was an independent constitutional Queen was also monarch of the other Commonwealth realms, including the United Kingdom.. Sierra Leone became an independent realm by the Sierra Leone Independence Act , which transformed the British Crown Colony of Sierra Leone into an independent member of the Style: Her Majesty. One such source is a book written in by Thomas Winterbottom, called ‘An Account of the native Africans in the Neighbourhood of Sierra Leone’, which is fortunately available online. He reports that the local Temne people called the area Romarong which means the Mountain [marong is mountain and ‘ro’ a common precursor to place names.
